Kim Se-young (27, Mirae Asset) shared her thoughts on being named 'Player of the Year' for the first time in her career. On the 21st (Korean time), at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida, USA (par 72, 6,556 yards), she finished as runner-up (13 under par, 275 strokes) at the CME Group Tour Championship, the final event of the 2020 LPGA Tour season with a total prize of $3 million. However, she topped the Player of the Year points standings with 118 points, surpassing Park In-bee (32, KB Financial Group), who had 112 points.
"I am very happy and proud to receive the Player of the Year award," said Kim Se-young. "I worked hard with my caddie Paul Fusco to make it a great year," she added, expressing gratitude to her parents, coach, trainer, and everyone around her. "Rather than focusing on the Player of the Year award itself, I concentrated on the tournaments because winning a tournament naturally brings the title," she said. Reflecting on the season, she said, "I tried to catch up with (Ko) Jin-young (25), but I couldn't, so I feel a little regretful."
She continued, "I think Jin-young and I played well and fought hard," and added, "I want to congratulate Jin-young." Having secured two wins including her first major victory and receiving the Player of the Year award, she had her best year yet. "It was a year full of learning," said Kim Se-young. "I still think there are more things to learn, but I believe I did well this year," she said, adding, "Seeing that I am still thirsty for victory because I regret not winning the final tournament."
