Geochang-gun Approved for 3-Year Extension as Anti-Aging Healing Special Zone, Accelerating Growth Momentum
Approval by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Actively Promoting 11 Policies in 3 Areas
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 21st that it has been re-designated as an Anti-Aging Healing Special Zone by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
According to the county, the re-designation period has been approved for an extension of 3 years from 2021 to 2023, operating as a special zone for 8 years since it was first designated as the nation’s first Anti-Aging Healing Special Zone in 2016.
This re-designation was approved by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in recognition of achievements in nine areas including the utilization of regulatory exemptions, anti-aging healing projects, well-being industry, and healing brand projects.
The county plans to invest 43.8 billion KRW over 457 hectares by 2023 to reinforce the 3-Track forest recreation facilities, revitalize Gajo Hot Springs, foster the health herbal industry, and promote 11 detailed projects including healing festivals and brand promotion.
To utilize regulatory exemptions for regional development, the county will promote the enactment and revision of ordinances in consultation with related departments in five areas: Road Traffic Act, Outdoor Advertising Act, Farmland Act, Road Act, and Food Sanitation Act.

Gu In-mo, the governor of Geochang-gun, stated, “Taking this re-designation of the Geochang Anti-Aging Healing Special Zone by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups as an opportunity, we plan to revitalize the county’s growth engines in various fields.” He added, “Next year, we aim to attract more than one million tourists to tourist sites such as Geochang Anti-Aging Healing Land, Changpowon, Suseungdae, and Gamaksan to invigorate the local economy.”
