'Same Sperm Donor' Both Pregnant Successfully in a Lesbian Couple... Each Gives Birth to Daughter and Son respectively
[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A lesbian couple in New Zealand gave birth to a son and a daughter by artificially inseminating with sperm from the same man.
According to New Zealand media Stuff, Tarin Cumming and Cat Buchanan, both in their early 30s and living in Auckland, gave birth to a son and a daughter through artificial insemination on the 20th and 24th of last month, respectively.
The engaged couple, Cumming and Buchanan, reportedly decided to have children at the end of last year and began looking for a method.
They found out that hospital artificial insemination costs were too expensive, so they found a sperm donor online and successfully performed artificial insemination themselves at home in March.
Afterwards, both had pregnancy periods without complications, but a crisis arose in mid-last month when Cumming’s water broke three weeks earlier than the due date. Since labor pains did not come after the water broke, Cumming attempted induced labor.
However, the baby, born with great difficulty, was barely showing a heartbeat and was limp. Despite performing CPR for 8 minutes and attaching an oxygen respirator, the baby had a seizure just three hours after birth.
The baby was immediately transferred to Auckland Hospital and wore a cooling suit for 72 hours to prevent brain damage.
Placenta examination revealed that the baby did not receive enough oxygen. If the water had not broken early, there would have been a risk of stillbirth. Currently, the baby has safely overcome the difficult crisis and is reported to be recovering health.
