Hyundai-Kia November European Sales Down 20%... Electric Vehicle Sales Increase
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Hyundai and Kia Motors' sales in Europe decreased by about 20% in November.
According to Hyundai and Kia Motors on the 17th, the sales volume in the European market in November was 65,943 units, down 20.1% compared to the same period last year. The market share fell by 0.5 percentage points to 6.3%. Hyundai sold 32,439 units, a 26.0% decrease compared to the same month last year, while Kia sold 33,504 units, down 13.4%. Hyundai explained that sales declined due to a 13.5% decrease in industrial demand in Europe compared to last year.
By model, Hyundai's best-selling vehicles were the Kona (13,014 units), Tucson (6,895 units), and i20 (4,833 units), while Kia's top sellers were the Ceed (10,154 units), Niro (7,007 units), and Sportage (4,544 units).
While overall sales decreased, electric vehicle sales increased significantly. Last month, 10,701 electric vehicles were sold in the European market, nearly tripling from 3,594 units last year. The proportion of electric vehicles in total sales rose by 11.2 percentage points year-on-year to 15.4%.
From January to November this year, Hyundai and Kia Motors sold a total of 767,112 units in the European market, down 22.3% compared to the same period last year. During this period, industrial demand in Europe was 10,746,293 units, a 26.1% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Hyundai and Kia Motors' cumulative market share this year is 7.1%, up 0.3 percentage points from 6.8% in the same period last year, raising expectations that the annual market share will exceed 7% for the first time in the European market.
