Tokyo Metropolis reports 822 new COVID-19 cases... Highest record for two consecutive days
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, has reached the 800s.
Tokyo announced that the number of newly reported COVID-19 cases on this day was 822. Following 678 cases the previous day, this marks the highest daily case count for two consecutive days.
As a result, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Tokyo has risen to 49,490.
Amid the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, Tokyo has raised its alert level for the medical care system to the highest level (level 4) for the first time.
NHK quoted an expert attending the Tokyo COVID-19 countermeasures meeting as saying, "Along with the increasing trend of COVID-19 hospitalizations, it has become difficult to coexist with regular medical care," and added, "It is most important to strengthen measures to suppress the increase in new positive cases to prevent a rise in severe patients."
The expert strongly insisted that there is no capacity left in the medical care system and that "the number of patients must be reduced."
