Justice Party Gwangju Branch Begins Tent Protest Urging Enactment of Serious Accident Punishment Act
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Justice Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Branch set up a tent protest site at Geumho Intersection in Seo-gu, Gwangju on the 15th, urging the enactment of the Serious Accident Punishment Act within the temporary National Assembly session, and began a tent protest and solidarity fasting.
The city branch stated, "Since the temporary National Assembly began on the 11th, the Justice Party, including Floor Leader Kang Eun-mi, bereaved families of industrial accident victims such as Kim Mi-sook, mother of the late Kim Yong-gyun, and Lee Yong-gwan, father of the late PD Lee Han-bit, have started an indefinite fasting protest to enact the Serious Accident Punishment Act to protect the lives and safety of the people," adding, "Although several years have passed since the two young men, Kim Yong-gyun and Lee Han-bit, lost their lives, the unchanged labor reality is evidence that the National Assembly has neglected its duties."
They continued, "The Democratic Party of Korea hesitates to pass this law, attaches conditions to it, expresses concerns about it, and does nothing, thereby acting as an accomplice in neglecting the endless deaths of the people," urging the ruling party to take responsible action.
Hwang Soon-young, Chairperson of the Justice Party Gwangju City Branch, said, "With the same desperate heart as the bereaved families, the Justice Party will start a tent protest and relay solidarity fasting from today to stop the 'procession of death,'" and added, "The Democratic Party should stop merely talking about enacting the law and immediately adopt the Serious Accident Punishment Act as the party's official stance."
