November ICT Exports $16.5B, Up 6 Consecutive Months... "System Semiconductors at 24-Year High"
Semiconductors, Displays, Mobile Phones Up... Trade Surplus $6.2 Billion
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Last month, information and communication technology (ICT) exports reached $16.56 billion, marking a 15.8% increase compared to November of the previous year. ICT exports have shown an upward trend for six consecutive months.
Exports of system semiconductors, a high value-added industry, amounted to $2.98 billion, achieving the highest performance in 24 years since 1996.
The average daily export value was $720 million, an 18.3% increase from November last year. The trade balance recorded a surplus of $6.18 billion.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the 'November ICT Export and Import Statistics' with these details on the 15th.
By item, exports increased for semiconductors ($8.67 billion, 16.1%), displays ($2.18 billion, 27.7%), and mobile phones ($1.28 billion, 24.9%).
Semiconductors, accounting for 52% of total exports, saw growth in both memory ($5.19 billion, up 7.3%) and system ($2.98 billion, up 39.2%).
In particular, the monthly average export value of system semiconductors achieved the highest monthly export amount in 24 years since 1996.
Looking at export performance by region, exports increased to China ($7.72 billion, up 8.1%), Vietnam ($2.83 billion, up 35.2%), the United States ($1.87 billion, up 19.4%), and the European Union (EU, $1.08 billion, up 24.9%). Exports to Japan ($330 million, down 13.8%) decreased.
Imports rose 14.2% year-on-year to $10.38 billion.
Imports of semiconductors ($4.59 billion, up 24.2%), mobile phones ($1.11 billion, up 0.4%), and computers and peripherals ($1.2 billion, up 8.4%) increased, while imports of displays ($260 million, down 17.6%) decreased.
By region, imports increased from Taiwan ($1.18 billion, up 23.3%), Japan ($940 million, up 17.3%), and the EU ($560 million, up 2.5%).

Imports from China ($3.85 billion, down 3.9%), the United States ($680 million, down 5.4%), and Vietnam ($610 million, down 22.3%) decreased.
