Prime Minister Jeong: "Carbon Neutrality Is a Goal That Can No Longer Be Delayed, It Is the Path We Must Take"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on the 14th, "We are living in an era of 'climate crisis,' not just 'climate change,'" adding, "Carbon neutrality is a goal that can no longer be postponed and a path we must take."
At the 45th Green Growth Committee held at the Government Seoul Office Building that day, Prime Minister Chung stated, "It is now an era where survival in the international community is difficult without efforts to reduce carbon emissions."
He emphasized, "A detailed practical strategy to walk this difficult path must be created with the participation of industry, local communities, and civil society," and added, "All of our society must recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and come together to share wisdom."
He continued, "This year has been truly difficult for our people due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and summer flood damage," explaining, "There are many indications that the fundamental causes of such new infectious diseases and frequent abnormal climate events are environmental destruction and global warming, i.e., climate change."
