[Asia Economy Reporter Jihee Kim] The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team achieved a double podium finish at the final race of the 2020 F1 (Formula One) season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, securing the double championship in both the World Constructors' and Drivers' categories for the seventh consecutive year.
The 2020 F1 season concluded with the 17th round Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held from the 11th to the 13th (local time) at the Yas Marina Circuit. Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team driver Valtteri Bottas finished second in the final race, completing 55 laps (a total of 305.47 km) of the Yas Marina Circuit in 1 hour 36 minutes 44.621 seconds. Bottas secured 2nd place in the Drivers' Championship with 223 points.
His teammate Lewis Hamilton finished third with a time of 1 hour 36 minutes 47.060 seconds. He ended the season with 11 wins and 347 points. Having already secured his seventh personal World Championship early by winning the 14th round Turkish Grand Prix, Hamilton tied with legendary driver Michael Schumacher as the most successful F1 champions in history.
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team also clinched the Constructors' Championship early at the 13th round Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, achieving the record of winning both the F1 World Constructors' and Drivers' Championships for seven consecutive years from 2014 to 2020. After the final race, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team finished the season with a total of 573 points, 254 points ahead of the second-place team Red Bull Racing (319 points).
