Sangju City is about to complete flood damage restoration work on two river embankments where revetment (riverbank protection) structures were washed away due to the monsoon and typhoon in August. The total length is 500 meters, including Byeongseongje of Byeongseongcheon in Byeongseong-dong and Naegokje of Jangcheon in Naegok-ri, Nakdong-myeon, and completion is expected within this week.
For the restoration of the damaged parts inside the embankments in these sections, blasted rock from the expansion construction site of the Donam Water Purification Plant at the Waterworks Office was used instead of concrete. By utilizing 22,000 cubic meters of blasted rock as a foundation layer, construction costs were reduced by 250 million won compared to concrete revetment work.
The plan to utilize blasted rock was proposed by the Construction Division. Knowing that blasted rock was coming out from the excavation work at the Donam Water Purification Plant, they suggested it to the Waterworks Office, and since the Waterworks Office also needed to find a way to dispose of the blasted rock, the issue was easily resolved.
Thanks to the cooperation of these departments, the river was restored in an eco-friendly manner while saving budget. In particular, the Waterworks Office had difficulties disposing of the blasted rock, which threatened to delay the construction, but by using it for river flood damage restoration, their concerns were alleviated.
