18 More Cases Linked to Gangseo-gu Church
As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) rapidly spreads mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, citizens are lining up in long queues for diagnostic testing at a temporary screening clinic set up at Seoul Station Plaza on the 14th. The government has designated the next three weeks, from this day until the 3rd of next month, as an "intensive testing period" and will provide free testing through temporary screening clinics installed at 150 locations in the metropolitan area. View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 14th, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Seoul was recorded as 219 compared to the previous day.
The number of confirmed cases on this day was significantly lower than the record high of 399 cases on the 12th. This is likely due to a decrease in the number of tests conducted over the weekend. Therefore, the number of confirmed cases may surge again starting from the 16th, when Monday's test results are released.
Among the new confirmed cases from the previous day, 217 were domestic infections excluding 2 imported cases. Large-scale cluster infections are leading to community transmission. Related to a church in Gangseo-gu, 18 additional cases were confirmed (total 158 cases in Seoul), and 2 more cases were confirmed related to a subway station in Eunpyeong-gu. Additionally, one case each was added from clusters at a hospital in Gangseo-gu, the restaurant 'Pagoda Town' in Jongno-gu, a hospital in Seongdong-gu, a medical institution in Nowon-gu, a dance training facility in Gangseo-gu, and an apartment saunaⅡ in Seocho-gu.
There were 2 cases from 'other' cluster infections, 128 cases from 'contact with other confirmed cases,' and 8 cases from contact with confirmed cases in other cities or provinces. There are 53 cases under investigation for infection routes, accounting for 24.2% of the total new confirmed cases.
There were also COVID-19 related deaths in Seoul. Three deaths were added on the 13th, bringing the cumulative total to 112. The number of patients undergoing isolation treatment is 4,721, and 7,573 people have been discharged after being declared fully recovered. The cumulative number of confirmed cases is recorded as 12,406.
