Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Wins Order for Four VLCCs Worth 400 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate holding company for shipbuilding under Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, has succeeded in securing orders for four ultra-large crude oil carriers.
Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on the 14th that it recently signed a construction contract worth 400 billion KRW for four 300,000-ton ultra-large crude oil carriers (VLCC) with a European shipping company.
The vessels ordered this time measure 330 meters in length, 60 meters in width, and 29.6 meters in height, and are equipped with scrubbers, an exhaust gas reduction device, to comply with environmental regulations. They will be built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, and are scheduled to be delivered sequentially to the shipowner starting from May 2022.
With this order, Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured 25 out of 37 ultra-large crude oil carriers ordered worldwide this year, capturing 68% of the total orders.

A representative from Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering stated, "We continue to receive inquiries across various ship types and projects, including ultra-large crude oil carriers," adding, "We will make every effort to secure additional orders by the end of the year."
