President Moon: "Submit 2030 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target Increase Promptly"

On the same day, President Moon attended the 'Climate Ambition Summit' held virtually to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and said in his speech, "We will join the international community's joint response efforts." He added, "We plan to prepare a long-term low-carbon development strategy to achieve the '2050 carbon neutrality' goal within this year and convert the 2030 nationally determined contribution to an absolute quantity target method to submit to the UN."
President Moon said, "Korea has established an inclusive vision that simultaneously achieves carbon neutrality, economic growth, and improved quality of life to become a carbon-neutral society by 2050." He continued, "The government, the National Assembly, and local governments have held various discussions, and through the 'Carbon Neutrality Declaration Vision Proclamation Ceremony,' the entire nation pledged to practice carbon neutrality together." He added, "Korea plans to prepare scenarios that citizens can voluntarily implement in their daily lives and create systematic roadmaps for each sector of society to execute."
He also stated, "We will develop green industries through the 'Green New Deal' combined with digital innovation," and said, "We will turn the climate crisis into an opportunity for 'inclusive and sustainable growth,' create new jobs, and share the experiences and achievements of the 'Green New Deal' with all countries."
