Gwangyang City Wins 'Best Award' in Low Birthrate Countermeasure City and County Evaluation Hosted by Jeonnam Province
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced that it was selected as an excellent institution at this year’s ‘Low Birthrate Countermeasure Best Practices City/County Evaluation Contest’ hosted by Jeollanam-do the day before, receiving the ‘Grand Prize’ award along with a prize money.
This evaluation was prepared to comprehensively assess the overall childbirth policies promoted by each local government, discover and spread best practices, and overcome the population decline problem caused by low birthrates. The evaluation criteria included the implementation performance of low birthrate countermeasures, fertility rate and number of births, project promotion, and level of effort.
Gwangyang City, which won the grand prize, was recognized for its contribution to establishing a foundation for low birthrate countermeasures by addressing the social issue of low birthrate together with citizens under the theme ‘Happy Childbirth Gwangyang Raised Together,’ alleviating the economic burden of pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare, and building infrastructure conducive to having and raising children through the operation of the Children’s Care Foundation.
The city is implementing projects such as △supporting 100,000 KRW for transportation expenses for prenatal checkups for pregnant women △covering 90% of the health management service fees for mothers and newborns for all childbirth families △providing 1,000,000 KRW worth of Gwangyang Love Gift Certificates as Happy Coupons for mothers with multiple children in families with a second child or more △supporting postpartum care expenses.
