View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education held the '34th Daegu Education Awards' ceremony on the 11th at the Daegu Future Education Research Institute to recognize four educators who have made significant contributions to the development of local education.
Since 1987, including these four individuals, a total of 97 people have received the Daegu Education Award. Each year, outstanding contributors in the fields of early childhood and special education, elementary education, secondary education, and educational administration and lifelong education are recommended from various sectors, and up to six recipients are selected.
This year, four awardees were chosen. They were recognized for laying the foundation to advance Daegu education to the next level in the fields of special education, elementary education, and secondary education.
No Bong-nam, the recipient in the early childhood and special education category, was acknowledged for founding the 'Malgeun Sori Harmonica Ensemble' and expanding the cultural and artistic base for people with disabilities by achieving numerous awards on both domestic and international stages.
Kim Ki-sik, former superintendent and recipient in the elementary education category, contributed to establishing creativity education as a key task of the city education office, pioneering the Ministry of Education's creativity education policy nationwide. He led initiatives such as the '10-Minute Morning Reading Campaign,' 'Book Start Movement,' and '100-Character Life Writing Campaign,' fostering a culture of reading and laying the foundation for writing skills.
Lee Dong-gil, former principal of Gyeongbuk National University Affiliated Middle School and recipient in the secondary education category, was highly praised for operating the country's first International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) candidate school among national and public schools, thereby laying the groundwork for IB World School certification.
Jo Chi-yeon, a teacher at Deokwon High School, led changes in the mathematics education paradigm by promoting enjoyable learning and process-oriented assessment, contributing to the expansion of mathematics education. She also spearheaded the introduction of future competency education for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era by operating research schools for the high school credit system, IB interest schools, and foundation schools.

Gang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "The Daegu Education Award is the most prestigious award in the education sector, given to those who have contributed to the development of local education through achievements in school management, student guidance, improvement of educational conditions, and lifelong education." She added, "This year, it is especially meaningful to present the award to four individuals who have dedicated their entire lives to education and shown exceptional affection and passion for Daegu education."
