Kim Tae-nyeon: "Anti-Moon Coalition is Just a Misfit of the Times... Kim Jong-in Should Clarify His Position"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] On the 11th, Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, demanded a statement from Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, regarding the launch of the ‘Regime Resignation’ emergency national coalition by Joo Ho-young, the floor leader, Ahn Cheol-soo, the leader of the People’s Party, and others, saying, “They are revealing the true colors of reactionary Cold War conservatives.”

He expressed deep regret over “the behavior of the main opposition party, a public party, which is stirring political instability with extreme slander and confrontational politics,” and criticized, “The opposition party, which was defeated in the general election, pairing with far-right groups and calling for the president’s resignation is an act of destroying the constitutional order and a refusal to accept the election results against public sentiment.”
He continued, “Politicians who gather under the pretext of an anti-Moon (anti-Moon Jae-in) coalition to engage in divisive politics and damage the nation’s dignity are simply maladapted to the times,” and pointed out, “The people want innovative conservatives, not Cold War conservatives trapped in past delusions. The opposition party must end divisive and hateful politics and reinvent itself as a sound alternative opposition.”
Regarding the amendment to the High-ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Office (HCIO) Act, which passed the plenary session the day before, Floor Leader Kim urged, “Since it is late, the launch must be expedited,” and appealed, “I request the Speaker of the National Assembly to promptly convene the HCIO chief candidate recommendation committee.” He criticized, “The amendment easing the HCIO chief recommendation approval to two-thirds of the total members is the opposition party’s own fault,” and added, “No matter how excellent a system is, if abused, it becomes useless, which the opposition party has proven themselves.”
He further stated, “The amendment was inevitable to prevent the opposition party from stalling,” and explained, “The amendment to the HCIO Act normalizes the candidate recommendation procedure for the HCIO chief, which the opposition party had paralyzed. We will launch it as a national investigative agency that upholds justice and fairness of the era.”
