Ford Korea Announces Six New Models Including SUVs and Pickup Trucks for Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Ford Sales Service Korea is accelerating its attack on the domestic imported car market by announcing the launch of six new models including sports utility vehicles (SUVs), pickup trucks, and off-roaders.
In the first half of this year, despite the global crisis caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Ford Lincoln Korea actively targeted the luxury SUV market by launching Lincoln's large luxury SUV Aviator, compact SUV Corsair, and Lincoln's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model, the Aviator PHEV Grand Touring.
In the second half, Ford expanded consumer choices in the domestic SUV market by introducing its first PHEV model, the Explorer PHEV. In the upcoming year 2021, a total of six new models will be introduced to the domestic market for the first time, aiming to satisfy various segments and consumer groups.
Enhanced Performance and Luxury... New Ford Explorer Platinum
Ford will launch the New Ford Explorer Platinum, the top-tier model of the flagship large SUV Explorer, in January next year. The Explorer pioneered the imported large SUV market in Korea and remains a popular model, ranking 5th in cumulative sales for a single model through November this year according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).
The New Ford Explorer Platinum is a premium model of the Explorer that upgrades various convenience features on top of the existing Explorer’s functionality. It is equipped with a 3.0ℓ GTDI V6 engine delivering enhanced power output of 370 horsepower, features a new front grille design, first-row seats with massage function, and second-row independent seats.
Additionally, the center fascia finished with premium materials and leather seats featuring the distinctive Platinum pattern add luxury to each part. Ford Korea plans to expand the Explorer lineup to include the 2.3 Limited, PHEV, and Platinum trims, satisfying customers seeking higher performance and premium models, thereby broadening the customer spectrum.
Ford’s Heritage Pickup Trucks: New Ford Ranger Wildtrak & Ranger Raptor
Reflecting the demand and popularity of imported pickup trucks, Ford Korea plans to launch the New Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor, continuing Ford’s heritage in pickup trucks.
The New Ford Ranger Wildtrak is Ford’s authentic 4X4 pickup truck, equipped with a 2.0ℓ bi-turbo diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing stable driving performance both on-road and off-road. It is also suitable for outdoor activities due to its efficient cargo space utilization.
The New Ford Ranger Raptor, carrying the DNA of Ford Performance, is designed to drive in rugged off-road environments. It features FOX Racing shock absorbers, a robust chassis structure, and an off-road racing mode called 'Baja Mode' among its terrain management modes, demonstrating specialized off-road performance. The exterior design includes a modern front design and a front lettering grille, completing a masculine and sturdy appearance.
Full-Size Large SUVs: New Ford Expedition & Lincoln Navigator
Ford Korea is also preparing to launch the New Ford Expedition, Ford’s largest SUV model. The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV larger than the Explorer, which has a solid position in the domestic large SUV market. It offers more spacious interior and cargo space, ideal for family trips, car camping, and outdoor leisure activities.
Lincoln Korea will also launch the New Lincoln Navigator, a flagship full-size large SUV. The Navigator, a higher-end model than Lincoln’s large SUV Aviator launched in April, offers more spaciousness and luxurious convenience features, providing an exceptional ride quality akin to first-class air travel. Through this, Lincoln will establish a full SUV lineup covering all sizes, from the compact SUV Corsair, mid-size Nautilus, large Aviator and Aviator PHEV Grand Touring, to the full-size large SUV Navigator.
'Revived after 24 Years' Ford’s Authentic Off-Roader Bronco
Ford Korea is preparing to introduce Ford’s authentic off-roader Bronco to the domestic market. The Bronco was previewed in the U.S. in July this year, but the domestic launch timing and models are yet to be decided.
