Kim Jong-min "Today the vote on the Public Corruption Investigation Office Act... Confirmation hearing for the head of the Office possible within the year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] The Democratic Party of Korea is expected to push for the confirmation hearing of the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) by the end of this month, following the passage of the amendment to the CIO establishment law.
On the morning of the 10th, Kim Jong-min, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party and a member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, said in an MBC radio interview in response to the question, "Will the amendment to the CIO law be passed today?" that "Since a filibuster was held yesterday, the vote will proceed immediately today."
When asked, "Do you think the CIO can be launched within this year?" he replied, "If we speed up the recommendation of the CIO chief candidate and the final confirmation hearing, it seems possible within this year."
Regarding the possibility that the People Power Party's recommended committee members might not participate, he said, "Even if the People Power Party's recommended members do not join, the quorum for resolution is two-thirds of the seven members, which is five," adding, "If five members agree, the resolution can be made. The meeting quorum will be established."
When asked if the composition of the candidate recommendation committee would change, he answered, "The current committee exists. The same members remain. Only the voting requirements will change."
Regarding whether the final decision will be made from the preliminary candidates recommended by the existing candidate recommendation committee, he said, "We can recommend the final two candidates from the currently recommended candidates, or since time has passed, if there are better new candidates, we can recommend more and discuss."
He added, "The Democratic Party has no plans for additional recommendations yet, but if the recommendation committee holds a meeting again, I think they will ask for opinions on that. Our recommendation committee members will consider it then."
Regarding the disciplinary committee meeting for Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol held that day, Kim said, "The Yoon side has many demands. Considering that, it seems difficult to reach a conclusion today."

When asked if the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, which was difficult to pass during the regular session, would be passed during the extraordinary session, he replied, "Of course." He further explained, "The reason it was not passed this time is because it is a newly enacted law, not an amendment to an existing law, so the procedure takes longer."
