Google's Top Search Term This Year: 'COVID-19'
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Google Korea announced on the 9th that the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) ranked first in the comprehensive domestic search term rankings this year.
In second place was the fiercely contested "US presidential election," and the "21st National Assembly election," which recorded the highest early voting rate ever, ranked seventh. "Tesla stock price," which attracted much investor interest, was third.
The "n번방 (Nth Room)" case, which sparked nationwide outrage due to the production and distribution of child and adolescent sexual exploitation materials, ranked sixth. The webtoon-based drama "Itaewon Class" ranked fourth, the only drama/entertainment search term to appear in the comprehensive rankings.
In the global comprehensive rankings, "coronavirus" was also first. "Coronavirus update" and "coronavirus symptoms" ranked seventh and eighth, respectively.
Second place was "election results," and third was NBA player "Kobe Bryant," who died in an unexpected accident. Fourth was the video conferencing program "Zoom," and fifth was the professional cricket league "Indian Premier League."
The achievements of "K-culture" also stood out. "Parasite," the first Korean film to win four awards including Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards, ranked first in the movie search term category both globally and domestically.
