Seoul Reports 270 New COVID-19 Cases Yesterday... 1,800 Cases in One Week
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul has exceeded 200 for a week straight.
As of midnight on the 9th, Seoul city announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Seoul area increased by 270 from the previous day, bringing the cumulative total to 10,932 cases.
At the end of last month, the daily confirmed cases in Seoul were in the 150s. However, starting this month, the number surged from 193 on the 1st to 262 on the 2nd, then reached a record high of 295 on the 3rd. Since then, the daily cases have been 235, 254, 244, 213, and on the 8th, it jumped again to 270. The total number of confirmed cases over the past week is 1,773, averaging more than 250 new cases per day.
Among the new cases reported the previous day, 21 were linked to the Pagoda Town in Jongno-gu, increasing the total number of cases related to this restaurant to 153.
Additionally, there were new cases in existing clusters: 7 cases at a market in Jung-gu (total 21), 7 cases at a dance academy in Gangseo-gu (total 202), 5 cases at a restaurant in Yongsan-gu (total 23), 3 cases at a hospital in Dongdaemun-gu (total 45), 2 cases related to Sauna II in Seocho-gu (total 80), and 2 cases related to an indoor sports facility II in Jungnang-gu (total 44).
Other clusters accounted for 15 cases, 82 cases were from contact with other confirmed patients, 21 cases from contact with confirmed patients in other cities or provinces, 6 cases were imported from overseas, and 93 cases are still under investigation for their infection routes.
There was one additional COVID-19 related death, bringing the total number of deaths in Seoul to 105.
So far, 7,217 patients in Seoul have been declared recovered and discharged, while 3,610 patients are currently in isolation and receiving treatment.
