Strengthening US Cooperation on AI and Quantum Technology Standards... Forum Held
KATS Hosts the '2020 Han-Mi Standard Forum'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Experts from South Korea and the United States are coming together to discuss cooperation plans for standardization in advanced industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum technology, and future vehicles.
The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it will hold the "2020 Korea-US Standards Forum" at 9:30 a.m. on the 9th at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul. About 30 experts in advanced industry standards from both countries will participate.
Joe Bhatia, President of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), said in his welcoming remarks, "Korea-US standards cooperation can support and develop trade between the two countries," adding, "Since 93% of global product exports are influenced by standards, standardization can promote the growth of global companies and industrial development."
Woo Taehee, Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the importance of standards cooperation and the need for technology sharing between Korea and the US in his congratulatory speech, stating, "We will actively encourage Korean companies to participate in standards cooperation."
James Kim, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea, will also celebrate the opening of the forum by reiterating the importance of Korea-US relations and the necessity of cooperation between the two countries.
Professor Jung Yeonwook of Sungkyunkwan University will introduce the current status and future strategies of Korea's quantum technology in the keynote speech, emphasizing the need for joint research and standardization cooperation in quantum technology and Korea-US collaboration.
Philip Wenblom, Director of Intel's Standards Policy and Chair of the IT International Standards Technical Committee, will present on "US Corporate Competitiveness and Standards."
Jung Hyunseok, President of UL Korea, will introduce various conformity assessment cases through testing and certification, conveying the message that conformity assessment supports technological innovation and can promote trade.
William Diab, Chair of the AI International Standards Technical Committee, will present the US AI standardization strategy and Korea-US cooperation plans.
After the keynote speeches, a video panel discussion will be held on three fields: AI, quantum technology, and future vehicles.

Lee Seungwoo, President of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "We will strengthen standards cooperation in advanced industries such as quantum technology, AI, and future vehicles through this forum," adding, "Furthermore, we will expand standards cooperation to low-carbon and carbon-neutral fields to establish an eco-friendly standardization cooperation system with the United States."
