[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 8th that it won the grand prize in the ‘Comprehensive Evaluation of Livestock Policies’ conducted by Jeollanam-do.
The comprehensive evaluation of livestock policies was conducted by verifying the performance of each city and county in Jeollanam-do’s 22 cities and counties across a total of 30 items in four fields (1,000 points): livestock policy (370 points), animal welfare (220 points), livestock management (160 points), and livestock resources (250 points).
In the livestock policy evaluation, the county invested 140 million KRW in livestock disaster insurance, enrolling 138 households (108%), and showed a high execution rate (100%) in heatwave response measures such as high-temperature stress alleviators for 500 farms (about 100 million KRW) and support for heatwave damage prevention facilities and equipment for 50 households (70 million KRW).
In the animal welfare field, although the target for eco-friendly livestock product certification was not reached, 15 new certifications this year were outstanding, and protection and management of stray animals were also evaluated as excellent.
In the livestock management field, the forage cultivation area expanded by 30% from 2,325 hectares last year to 2,997 hectares, and about 4 billion KRW of forage project funds were fully executed early.
In the livestock resources field, the designation of clean farms increased significantly by 400% compared to the previous year, from 14 farms to 11 farms this year, with an additional 45 farms under review. The student horseback riding program and active promotion of the horse industry also received high scores, securing the honor of the grand prize.
