"Sharper Family Look Enhanced with Advanced Technology" Genesis GV70 Unveiled (Comprehensive)
Tentative Selling Price Expected at 49 Million to 75 Million KRW
"The Most Sporty and Dynamic in the Genesis Lineup"
Differentiated by Driving Performance, Safety & Convenience Features, and New Technologies
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Genesis has unveiled its first mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV), the 'GV70'. The GV70 boasts strengths such as a dynamic exterior emphasizing a sporty image, stable performance befitting an urban luxury SUV, and advanced new technologies. The tentative selling price of the GV70, expected to be released as early as this year, is set between 49 million and 75 million KRW.
On the 8th, Genesis held a global digital unveiling event for the GV70 and introduced key specifications including the engine lineup. Albert Biermann, President of Hyundai Motor Group, said, "Genesis conducted every possible experiment with the GV70 to meet both on-road and off-road needs," adding, "To optimize performance in cornering and high-speed driving, we tested extreme road conditions in Korea, the United States, and Germany, and tuned the overall driving performance by running millions of miles on tracks."
The GV70 completes a dynamic yet practical design by adding streamlined lines to elements that inherit Genesis's design identity, such as the crest grille shaped like a wing emblem and quad lamps. The interior harmoniously implements the beauty of space and sporty sensibility. Notably, the interior design inspired by the aerodynamic shape of an airplane wing uses oval elements as the main theme of the interior, which also stands out.
During the online media briefing held after the unveiling event, the GV70's design attracted the most attention. Yoon Il-heon, Executive Director in charge of Genesis design, explained, "Genesis brand design is always based on dynamic elegance but varies according to the vehicle's character," adding, "In the case of the GV70, we designed it to emphasize the sportiest and most dynamic image among the Genesis lineup."
The signature 'two-line' lamps of the Genesis brand were also refined to match this image. Executive Director Yoon said, "We modify the two-line lamps according to vehicle size, customer lifestyle, and image," and added, "For the GV70, to achieve a sleek and agile image, the lamps were designed more streamlined compared to the robust lamps applied to models like the G80."
Genesis offers a variety of colors and interior materials to suit different tastes. Including three new colors?Mauna Red, Glossy Barossa Burgundy, and Matte Barossa Burgundy?a total of 12 exterior colors are available. For interior colors, five packages and three exclusive colors for sports packages are offered to expand choices.
The newly revealed engine lineup consists of three types: gasoline 2.5 turbo, 3.5 turbo, and diesel 2.2. The gasoline 2.5 turbo model delivers a maximum output of 304 horsepower and a maximum torque of 43.0 kgf·m, while the gasoline 3.5 turbo model produces 380 horsepower and 54.0 kgf·m of torque. Both gasoline 2.5 turbo and 3.5 turbo engines apply a dual fuel injection system that uses direct injection and intake port injection depending on driving conditions, achieving excellent performance and fuel efficiency. The gasoline 3.5 turbo model accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The diesel 2.2 model offers a maximum output of 210 horsepower and maximum torque of 45.0 kgf·m.
Genesis applied advanced autonomous driving technologies based on active safety to the GV70, along with various new technologies to protect passengers. Key safety and convenience features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and navigation-based Smart Cruise Control are standard across all trims. Highway Driving Assist II supports not only driving on highways and expressways but also lane changes.
Additionally, by incorporating biometric new technologies and advanced infotainment systems, Genesis claims to have completed the GV70 as an 'intelligent vehicle.' The GV70 includes world-first new technologies such as the 'Genesis CarPay-linked fingerprint authentication system' for easy in-vehicle payments and the radar sensor-based 'Advanced Rear Occupant Alert.'
