Physics II Question 18 Error Expected to Be Marked "No Correct Answer"
On the morning of December 3, 2020, during the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test, a proctor at the examination site of Gyeongbok High School in Jongno-gu, Seoul, is wearing plastic gloves.
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), this year's exam was postponed by two weeks and was taken simultaneously at 1,383 test centers across 86 test districts nationwide, with a record low of 493,433 test takers. 2020.12.3
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] As of 5 p.m. on the 7th, a total of 400 objections have been received regarding the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) questions.
By subject, the Korean language section had the most objections with 138 cases. In particular, objections were concentrated on question number 37 in the Korean section. Among the five passages, number 4 is the correct answer, but over 80 objections requested that number 1 also be accepted as a correct answer, treating it as a multiple-answer question. This question was worth 3 points and involved content related to 3D animation production, which was likely unfamiliar to many test takers, making it difficult for them.
The next subject with many objections was the social studies inquiry section, with 119 cases received. About 30 of these pointed out an error in question number 9 of Life and Ethics. The objection was that option 'ㄹ', which was marked incorrect, should be the correct answer.
Following that, the science inquiry section had 78 objections, including 11 regarding question number 18 in Physics II. This question presented the trajectory of an object in a diagram and required calculating the ratio of decreased mechanical energy at two points as the object moved along the path shown.
However, it was pointed out that the problem set the object's kinetic energy to have a negative (-) value, meaning the object should be below the horizontal plane, but the diagram showed the object moving only above the horizontal plane. Choi Jeom-ho, a science team instructor at Jongno Academy Academic Evaluation Research Institute, said, "The object's motion path was incorrectly depicted in the diagram," and added, "Since the diagram does not match the problem, it is expected that no correct answer will be accepted."
Other objections included 46 cases in the English section, 13 in mathematics, 3 in vocational studies, and 1 in second foreign language/Chinese characters.
