Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Awarded 'Minister of the Interior and Safety Award' for Contribution to Revitalizing Traditional Markets
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the group category and received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the '2020 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Merit Award Ceremony' held at the Gwangju-Jeonnam Small and Medium Venture Business Administration on the 4th.
The Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Merit Award has been held since 2004 and marked its 17th anniversary this year.
Gwangsan-gu has been promoting facility and management modernization projects to strengthen the competitiveness of a total of six traditional markets, including Songjeong 5-day Market, Bia 5-day Market, and Wolgok Market.
In addition, it has been continuously working to increase sales at traditional markets by conducting shopping events and public officials' Onnuri gift certificate purchase campaigns.
In particular, to improve the parking environment of traditional markets, parking towers were built at Wolgok Market in 2017 and 1913 Songjeong Station Market in 2019.
This year, construction of a parking tower at Bia 5-day Market has begun and is scheduled to be completed in July of the following year.
Gwangsan-gu received this honor due to the excellent evaluation of increasing accessibility and convenience for market visitors through these series of traditional market revitalization projects.
In the individual category of merit awards, Beom-woong, the head of the merchants' association of 1913 Songjeong Station Market, also received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award, marking a double celebration.
