KCC: "KBS 2nd DTV and SBS DTV Face License Renewal Denial... Hearing Procedures Underway"
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 3rd that, as a result of the re-licensing review conducted for 162 broadcasting stations of 21 companies, including the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), whose license validity expires at the end of this month, the KBS 2nd DTV Broadcasting Station and SBS DTV Broadcasting Station were evaluated below the benchmark score of 650 points.
If the total review score is below 650 points, it corresponds to either refusal of re-licensing or conditional re-licensing requirements, and a hearing procedure under the Administrative Procedures Act will be conducted.
Additionally, the EBS DTV Broadcasting Station was evaluated with a score of 700 points or higher, and 159 broadcasting stations, including the KBS 1st DTV Broadcasting Station, scored between 650 and 700 points.
The KCC plans to make the final decision on re-licensing through a full committee meeting after an additional review process regarding re-licensing conditions to be imposed on each operator, based on the review results and opinions of the review committee.
