‘National Assembly Sejong Assembly Hall Construction Cost’ Included in Government Budget Proposal… Sejong City Welcomes Comment on “Project Promotion Momentum”
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The construction cost for the National Assembly Sejong Chamber has been included in next year's government budget proposal.
According to Sejong City on the 3rd, the '2021 Government Budget Proposal' passed at the National Assembly plenary session the day before included 12.7 billion KRW for the construction of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber.
The initial government proposal allocated 1 billion KRW for the construction cost of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber. However, during the review process by the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee and the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, the amount was increased and finalized by 11.7 billion KRW, giving momentum to the promotion of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber construction, according to the city.
With the budget proposal's approval, the construction cost for the Sejong Chamber has secured a total budget of 14.7 billion KRW, adding 12.7 billion KRW to the existing 2 billion KRW (1 billion KRW secured each in 2019 and 2020).
Regarding the inclusion of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber construction cost in next year's government budget proposal, the city issued a statement expressing its welcome.
The city said, "With the securing of the construction cost for the National Assembly Sejong Chamber, the completion of Sejong as the administrative capital is now a reality within reach," and added, "The city has advanced to become a 'political and administrative capital' by relocating not only government ministries but also the National Assembly functions."

Furthermore, the city stated, "By securing a total of 14.7 billion KRW for the construction of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber, we will accelerate the project by conducting an international competition and basic design for the installation of the Sejong Chamber," and expressed expectations that "once the National Assembly Sejong Chamber is built, inefficiencies in national governance caused by the separation between the legislative and executive branches will be resolved, and the quality of policies will improve."
