Galaxy Smart Tag to Reduce Risk of Loss Released
Certification Obtained in Indonesia... Launch Imminent
Tracker Device Release Following SmartThings Find
Evolution from SIM Card 'Tracker' to Next Level
Samsung Electronics is preparing to launch an accessory called the 'Galaxy Smart Tag,' which can be attached to items without communication functions to check their real-time location.
On the 1st (local time), Samsung Electronics Indonesia received certification for a device named Galaxy Smart Tag (model El-T5300) from Indonesia Telecom. It is expected that Samsung's new accessory, which uses Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for location tracking, will be released soon.
Following the recent launch of 'SmartThings Find,' which allows real-time location tracking of Galaxy smartphones and wireless earphones, Samsung Electronics is now releasing an accessory utilizing the same technology. SmartThings notifies the device location even when the network connection is lost, and when a user reports a lost device via the app, nearby devices send location information to the SmartThings server.
Two years ago, Samsung Electronics also released a wireless location tracker called the 'SmartThings Tracker.' This device, based on LTE and GPS, allows location tracking by inserting a SIM card and can be carried by children or pets. It was sold domestically for 66,000 KRW.

Meanwhile, Apple is also developing a location-tracking accessory called the 'Apple Tag.' It can connect with Mac, iPhone, and iPad, sending alerts when the location becomes distant and allowing users to set lost mode and other features. Although it was expected to be unveiled at Apple's new product event this year, delays in release have increased the likelihood that Samsung Electronics will launch a location-tracking accessory first.
