US Sanctions Chinese Companies Supporting Venezuela
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on China Electronics Import and Export Corporation (CEIEC) for supporting efforts to undermine democracy in Venezuela.
In a statement released on the 30th (local time), the Treasury stated that CEIEC supported the Maduro regime's internet service restrictions, digital surveillance, and cyber operations targeting political opponents.
The Treasury noted that since 2017, CEIEC has provided software, training, and technical experts to the Venezuelan government, including the state-owned telecommunications company CANTV.
