Hyundai Glovis-SSG.com, Korea's First Cold Chain Electric Truck Pilot Deployment
Full-scale Deployment in Q1 Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Glovis has introduced electric trucks into the cold chain logistics system, the first refrigerated and frozen logistics transport system in Korea.
Hyundai Glovis announced on the 26th that it has pilot-deployed one 1-ton electric truck as a fresh product delivery vehicle for SSG.com. This comes about a year after the two companies agreed to establish an electric vehicle delivery service in October last year.
The eco-friendly electric truck introduced this time can travel approximately 150 km with one hour of rapid charging. The vehicle body and the electric batteries of the refrigerated and frozen compartments are separated to improve driving efficiency and ensure the stability of the cargo compartment. Additionally, since freshness is crucial for the products being transported, the truck is equipped with highly insulated facilities and devices that automatically adjust the appropriate temperature through real-time temperature monitoring.
The two companies plan to conduct a pilot operation of the electric truck targeting Seoul and the metropolitan area for the next three months, then check and supplement delivery performance, and gradually expand vehicle deployment from next year.
Hyundai Glovis expects that once eco-friendly electric delivery vehicles are fully distributed in the first quarter of next year, there will be a significant reduction in environmental pollutant emissions. According to Seoul City, using a 1-ton electric truck with a daily driving distance of 50 km can save about 2 million KRW in fuel costs and reduce greenhouse gases (CO2) and fine dust by 1.96 tons and 0.93 kg respectively.
