The victim’s lawyer made this statement to the press after the witness examination at the trial of Mr. A held at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 31 (Presiding Judge Seongpil Cho). The lawyer said, "The victim expressed gratitude to the court and also stated that punishing the perpetrator would give her a chance to live again," adding, "I believe the court’s attitude will give strength to many others who have not yet been able to speak about sexual crime victimization."

This day’s trial was the second hearing of Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of quasi-rape causing injury. The victim who accused Mr. A appeared as a witness, and considering the nature of the sexual crime case, the court conducted the examination privately. Mr. A, who had performed protocol duties for the late Park Won-soon, former Seoul mayor, was indicted without detention on charges of taking a drunken victim to a motel and sexually assaulting her on the eve of the April 15 general election. He was suspended from his position due to this case.
