According to major foreign media including the Associated Press, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on the 18th (local time) that the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases reached 2,013,388. The death toll stands at 48,408, and the number of recovered patients is 1,703,498.
Health authorities are concerned about the spread of a second wave of infections.
John Nkengasong, head of the Africa CDC, expressed concern, saying, "Mask-wearing is declining, which is dangerous," and "We do not know how high the peak of the second wave of infections will be."
