"Operation of 'Tada Light' Without Taxi License and Introduction of Flexible Fare System"
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Drivers who have not yet obtained taxi driver qualifications can now operate the franchise taxi service 'Tada Light.'
Tada operator VCNC announced on the 19th that it has received approval for two ICT regulatory sandbox demonstration exceptions and one temporary permit application submitted to the Ministry of Science and ICT.
VCNC received temporary approval from the Ministry of Science and ICT for the GPS-based app meter business, demonstration exceptions for platform-based temporary taxi driver qualification operations, and the franchise taxi dynamic fare system business.
Those wishing to work as Tada Light drivers can obtain a 'temporary driving qualification,' get employed by a franchise transportation company, and then acquire taxi driver qualifications and complete mandatory legal training within three months.
Once the app meter service begins, fares will be calculated based on GPS data including time, distance, and surcharge rates. This is expected to prevent fare disputes between drivers and passengers and resolve inconveniences such as separately calculating tolls for highways, tunnels, and other toll roads.
A VCNC official stated, "The dynamic fare system can differentiate fares based on time, region, and distance, contributing to balancing customer demand and vehicle supply." The app meter will undergo business demonstration by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority in the future. The timing for the application of the app meter and dynamic fare system is yet to be determined.
