Korea Rail Network Authority Begins Construction of Power Supply Facilities for 'Jinju~Gwangyang' Electrification Project

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Honam Headquarters of the Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 17th that it has signed a business agreement with the Gyeongnam Headquarters of Korea Electric Power Corporation for power supply in the electrification project of the Gyeongjeon Line between Jinju and Gwangyang.
The electrification between Jinju and Gwangyang (total length 55.08 km) is a project to upgrade the non-electrified section to high-speed operation at 200 km/h.
The Rail Network Authority started this project in December last year, investing a total project cost of 168 billion KRW.
The agreement was signed to supply power to the section between Jinju and Gwangyang through the Hadong Substation, and the Rail Network Authority plans to finalize the project through the installation of catenary wires and comprehensive test runs.

Meanwhile, the Gyeongjeon Line had already completed electrification of the 'Suncheon to Gwangyang' section in June 2012 and the 'Jinju to Masan' section in December 2012, opening them first. Once the electrification projects for the 'Masan to Bujeon' section and the 'Jinju to Gwangyang' section are additionally completed, the entire 146.7 km section from Suncheon to Bujeon will be fully electrified.
