Damyang-gun Selected as Excellence Award Winner at the 7th Korea Classical Literature Awards
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Jeonnam Damyang-gun (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 17th that it has selected four outstanding works in the ‘7th Korean Gasa Literature Awards’ contest held to modernly inherit, develop, and popularize gasa literature.
Hosted by the county and organized by the Korean Gasa Literature Academic Promotion Committee, the Korean Gasa Literature Awards were established to creatively inherit and develop the 700-year tradition of gasa literature and to revive the contemporaneity of gasa as literature.
Out of 184 submissions received from November last year to October this year, the entries were narrowed down to seven after more than 10 days of review on the 10th, and after long and thorough discussions, Lee Hyung-nam’s ‘Nabi Nalda’ (Butterfly Flies) was unanimously selected as the grand prize winner.
The work ‘Nabi Nalda’ incorporates the content of the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi’s fable, “The Butterfly Dream,” while also blending in the image of a bare tree in late autumn with fallen leaves turning into butterflies, expressing new poetic imagination.
The work ‘12wol-e Sseuneun Pyeonji’ (Letter Written in December) by Kim Kyung-ok, selected for the excellence award, vividly portrays the passionate love of a homeroom teacher guiding students who face simultaneous challenges of employment, livelihood, and further education.
The encouragement award-winning work ‘Gulbi’ (Dried Yellow Corvina) by Kim Yong-bok depicts the deep love of a married couple in an interesting and nuanced way, while Ko Jung-sun’s ‘Sinanseon, 700nyeon-ui Kkum Iyagi’ (Sinan Ship, a 700-Year Dream Story) captures the contemporary civilization in depth through the history of the Sinan shipwreck off the coast of Sinan Dodeokdo.
