LGU+ Wins Smart Logistics Platform Project in Gyeonggi Banwol-Sihwa Industrial Complex
Joint Establishment and Operation by Hanaro TNS, Shinsegae Construction, and Bow System
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus announced on the 16th that it has been selected as a business operator for the "Gyeonggi Banwol-Sihwa Complex Smart Logistics Platform Construction and Operation Project," hosted by the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, together with Hanaro TNS, Shinsegae Construction, and Bowoo System.
The smart logistics platform is a new concept logistics system that allows tenant companies within an industrial complex to jointly utilize logistics resources. It is a method of sharing warehouses, unmanned forklifts, logistics robots, and more to increase cost efficiency.
Through this project, the four companies will build and operate a smart logistics platform in the Gyeonggi Banwol-Sihwa National Industrial Complex by 2022. ▲ LG Uplus will conduct demonstrations of 5G enterprise private networks, 5G unmanned forklifts, and logistics robots ▲ Hanaro TNS will be responsible for building and operating the logistics platform ▲ Shinsegae Construction will supply logistics robots and implement related systems ▲ Bowoo System will handle the construction of automation facilities.
The four companies will first prepare the necessary arrangements to enable tenant companies to jointly utilize logistics resources they possess. They plan to analyze big data of logistics information within the industrial complex and identify idle resources to provide real-time status information. This information can be viewed at a glance via a portal or mobile device, and companies can apply for use as needed.
Advanced ICT facilities such as 5G private networks, unmanned forklifts, and logistics robots will be introduced and demonstrated at the aging shared logistics centers within the industrial complex. A supply chain management (SCM) service will also be implemented to digitalize the entire production and distribution process by linking tenant factories with the logistics platform.
Seo Jae-yong, Executive Director of Convergence Business at LG Uplus, said, "This order is significant as the first case of a smart logistics business utilizing 5G-based unmanned forklifts and logistics robots," adding, "We will support the digital transformation of industrial complexes through a 'shared platform' that innovatively reduces logistics costs."
