Lotte Food Launches K-Rospam Made with 100% Domestic Pork
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] The first domestically produced square can ham brand, ‘Rospam,’ has launched ‘K-Rospam,’ which captures the taste of Korea.
On the 16th, Lotte Foods announced the release of ‘K-Rospam,’ a square can ham made from 100% domestically sourced pork.
‘Rospam’ is the first purely Korean technology square can ham brand produced domestically in June 1983. Until then, canned ham in Korea was only produced in cylindrical cans, but with Rospam, square can ham production began domestically.
The newly released ‘K-Rospam’ is a new product under the Rospam brand after two years. K-Rospam is characterized by using ‘Handon,’ Korean pork known as the national representative on the dining table, to promote quality domestic pork and support pork farmers nationwide.
The pork content in the ham is 95.03%, boasting the highest meat content among domestic canned hams. Additionally, 100% of the pork used is fresh domestic pork, Handon, which enhances deep flavor and a chewy texture. It is also aged at low temperature below 5℃ for 24 hours to achieve a richer and more abundant taste.
K-Rospam uses the letter ‘K’ in its product name to represent Korean characteristics and actively participate in expanding the Korean Wave. The can design incorporates the Taegeuk pattern, an emblem featuring Gyeongbokgung Palace’s Geunjeongjeon Hall, and traditional Korean patterns to highlight Korean beauty. Through this, it aims to promote the image of an authentic domestic ham made from Korean pork Handon, lead active exports of domestic canned ham, and establish itself as a representative Korean export item alongside ‘K-pop’ and ‘K-food.’ Lotte Foods has actively pursued overseas exports, starting with the first export of canned ham to Singapore in June, and plans to explore exporting K-Rospam to Singapore, Thailand, and other regions.
Lotte Foods is cooperating with the Handon Fund Management Committee regarding the launch of K-Rospam and plans to hold an MOU signing ceremony in December. The Handon Fund recently appointed Baek Jong-won, a popular culinary entrepreneur, as a new Handon ambassador to promote the excellence and sales activation of Korean pork Handon raised domestically. Accordingly, the K-Rospam product packaging features the ‘Handon Mark’ to indicate that it uses excellent domestic ingredients and to support Handon farmers.
Through the launch of K-Rospam, Lotte Foods plans to further expand the purchase of domestic pork and assist Handon farmers who are struggling due to reduced sales channels caused by COVID-19. Starting from the 20th, a regional win-win event called the ‘K-Project,’ featuring K-Rospam and Korea pork Handon, will be held in collaboration with the Handon Fund.
