Under the main theme of 'The Future of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Opened Together, the Meaning and Tasks of Administrative Integration,' the event proceeded for two hours with a keynote speech by Kim Sa-yeol, Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, and panel discussions.
In his keynote speech, Kim Sa-yeol presented three points for national balanced development in the era of COVID-19 spread: ▲ discovering ultra-wide cooperation projects through regional balanced New Deal ▲ establishing innovation cities as regional growth hubs ▲ differentiated support using balanced development indicators.
Panelists for the topic discussion included Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Mayor Kwon Young-jin, National Assemblyman Lee Man-hee, Kim Dae-jin, Chairman of the Democratic Party Daegu City Committee, and Lee Jae-ha, Chairman of the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, about 25 people including Gunwi County Mayor Kim Young-man, Jo Gwang-hyun, Secretary-General of the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice, Professor Kim Tae-woon of Kyungpook National University, and local residents participated online, offering diverse opinions.
Mayor Kwon Young-jin emphasized, "If Daegu and Gyeongbuk integrate, they will leap into an attractive international city equipped with airports and ports, able to compete confidently with global cities. Let us open a new path of administrative integration never traveled before with the urgency of local areas and the power of solidarity and cooperation that Daegu-Gyeongbuk possesses."
Governor Lee Cheol-woo suggested the direction of integration, stating, "Daegu-Gyeongbuk administrative integration will be an ‘administrative revolution’ to respond to the 4th Industrial Revolution and the AI era, completely changing the paradigm of jobs. Daegu should develop as a global cultural city with musicals and operas, while Gyeongbuk should share roles in recreation, healing, and cultural tourism to enhance the competitiveness of world-class cities."
