According to Haenam County on the 12th, with the easing of social distancing measures, the 49th Chairman's Cup National Men and Women’s Fencing Championships started last month, followed by the 22nd Korean Student Modern Pentathlon Federation Chairman's Cup, the 7th Korean Business Modern Pentathlon Federation Chairman's Cup National Modern Pentathlon Competition, and the 63rd National Summer Seasonal Badminton Championships, all of which were successfully held.
This month, the 2020 Bongnimgi National Business Kendo Competition and the Korean Middle School Football Federation Chairman's Cup Football Tournament were held consecutively, bringing visitors to accommodations and restaurants, marking a rare revival since the outbreak of COVID-19.
Despite the challenges of holding matches without spectators or with limited audiences while adhering to quarantine guidelines, athletes who came to Haenam to participate in the competitions unanimously expressed, “It was a great honor and joy to participate in a competition held in a COVID-19 clean area regardless of winning or losing, and the quarantine management system became a successful model case for other local governments.”
The county plans to further boost the local economy by hosting major nationwide competitions such as the 2020 National Middle and High School Soft Tennis Tournament, the 53rd Autumn Cup National Elementary School Volleyball Tournament, as well as fencing and modern pentathlon competitions through the end of this year.
Additionally, starting from December, numerous teams including the fencing youth national team, modern pentathlon youth national team, as well as football, golf, athletics, fencing, modern pentathlon, and volleyball teams are scheduled to begin winter training camps, continuing the positive economic momentum in the region.
