[Second Release of National Tax Statistics] Alcohol Shipment Volume Declines for 6 Consecutive Years... Whiskey Down 42.9% Compared to Previous Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Domestic liquor shipment volume has been declining for six consecutive years. Last year, it decreased by 1.7% compared to the previous year.
On the 12th, the National Tax Service (NTS) released early statistics reflecting this information.
The NTS provides statistics that can be produced throughout the year in advance to facilitate prompt access to related information before publishing the annual National Tax Statistical Yearbook every December.
This release includes a total of 86 statistical tables, such as the performance of asset tracking investigations on high-value tax delinquents. In July, 95 statistical tables were released in the first phase. The total of 181 tables released early this year is 11 more than last year's early release (170 tables).
By category, there are 20 tables on corporate tax, 16 on value-added tax, 11 on consumption tax, 8 on electronic tax sources, 8 on international taxation, 5 on general (collection), 5 on tax audits, 4 on inheritance and gift tax, 4 on appeals, 2 on electronic filing, and 3 on student loan repayments.
The statistical tables can be accessed on the National Tax Statistics website, the NTS website, and the National Statistical Portal (KOSIS).
Last year, domestic liquor shipment volume (excluding imports) was 3.377 million kiloliters, continuing a downward trend over the past six years.
By liquor type, beer had the highest shipment volume at 1.716 million kiloliters, followed by diluted soju at 916,000 kiloliters, and takju (unfiltered rice wine) at 371,000 kiloliters.
Other liquors such as sparkling rice wine increased by 1.9% to 29,000 kiloliters compared to the previous year. Whiskey decreased by 42.9% compared to the previous year.
