Kia Motors Holds Safety and Environmental Management Declaration Ceremony... First in Domestic Industry to Obtain ISO Integrated Certification
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Kia Motors has become the first in the domestic automotive industry to obtain an integrated ISO certification related to workplace safety and environment, and held a safety and environmental management declaration ceremony.
On the 9th, Kia held the 'Safety and Environmental Management Declaration Ceremony' and 'ISO Integrated Certification Award Ceremony' at its headquarters in Yangjae-dong, attended by Kia Motors President Song Hoseong, executives and employees, and Frode Sulberg, the Norwegian Ambassador to Korea.
The declaration ceremony was held to share the necessity of establishing a systematic process for safety and environmental risks among employees and to raise awareness of safety culture. Kia plans to proactively respond to the increasingly stringent safety and environmental regulations through this initiative.
Specifically, Kia expressed its commitment to creating a people- and environment-centered corporate culture and declared four safety and environmental management policies: ▲ compliance with safety and environmental laws and regulations ▲ minimization of safety and environmental risks ▲ minimization of environmental pollution emissions ▲ formation of an organizational culture with ingrained safety. The company also announced its goal to establish a world-class safety culture by 2025.
In fact, Kia has recognized safety and environment as core management values, established related organizations since 2014, significantly reinforced professional personnel, strengthened on-site activities to prevent major accidents and incidents, and developed and operated accident prevention programs directly.
Additionally, recognizing the need to establish the system through official verification by external organizations, Kia pursued 'ISO integrated certification' and in October this year received integrated ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environment) certifications from DNV-GL Korea, one of the world's top three certification bodies.
The 'ISO integrated certification' obtained by Kia, the first in the domestic automotive industry, encompasses two management systems: ▲ ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), an international standard for managing workplace safety and health by proactively preventing various workplace hazards ▲ ISO 14001 (Environment), an international standard for efficient management of environmental risks by preventing environmental accidents in advance to build a pleasant workplace and local community.
Going forward, Kia plans to expand the pre-established integrated safety and environmental management system step-by-step to overseas business sites and achieve 'ISO integrated certification' for headquarters, domestic plants, and overseas plants by 2022.
