Hyundai Motor Group Chung Mong-Koo Foundation Supports Ondream Scholarship Program for Children of Fallen and Injured Firefighters with 1.7 Billion KRW
Over 1,700 Applicants in Total Over 8 Years Since 2013
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation announced on the 9th that it has supported approximately 1.7 billion KRW to about 1,700 recipients over eight years since 2013 through the ‘OnDream Scholarship for Children of Fallen and Injured Firefighters’ program.
In the first half of this year, an OnDream Patriotism Scholarship certificate awarding ceremony was held with the attendance of Kwon Oh-gyu, Chairman of the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation, officials from the Fire Agency, as well as scholarship recipients and their families. Kim Sol-hyun (Myongji University, Law Year 1), selected as a scholarship recipient this year, recalled her father, a firefighter who had an accident, saying, "I vividly remember when he was injured during withdrawal operations after fire suppression duty and stayed in the hospital for nearly a year. I am always proud and grateful to my father who works with a sense of duty for the country," and added, "I will do my best in my studies to become a child worthy of this honor."
The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation held the '2020 OnDream Patriotism Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony' on May 21 at the Hyundai Building's main conference room located in Gye-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. View original imageThe foundation started this support with the purpose of honoring those who sacrificed for the safety of the nation and its people and believing that society should collectively care for the growth of their children. The OnDream Patriotism Scholarship, including police and firefighting sectors, has supported a total of 2,700 scholarship recipients with about 3.6 billion KRW in scholarships to date.
A firefighter injured in 2005 shared, "My daughter, who was selected as a scholarship recipient in 2013, proudly said that receiving the scholarship from the foundation was a gift and a precious reward for my sweat and passion," and added, "That made me feel pride as a father and as a firefighter of the Republic of Korea."

Kwon Oh-gyu, Chairman of the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation, stated, "The reason our country has been able to grow until now is because of the hard work of those who sacrificed themselves for the nation," and added, "The foundation will create an environment where future generations who carry on their spirit can grow."
