On the 9th, UNIST held a ceremony to present the Order of Service Merit to former President Jeong at the university headquarters' 6th-floor conference room. Jeong received the Blue Stripes, the highest grade among the Order of Service Merit awards, in recognition of his lifelong dedication as an educator and his contributions to the development of national education.
Jeong was inaugurated as the third president of UNIST in 2015 when the institution transitioned to a science and technology institute. He continued his term until last year, focusing on improving the quality of UNIST research and establishing a full-cycle startup ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Jeong earned his Ph.D. in engineering from Kansas State University in 1984 and served as a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at POSTECH from 1986 to 2008. From 2008 to 2015, he worked as a professor at UNIST, holding various administrative positions including vice president.
