"Furious Over Breakup Talk"... Ex-convict with 20 Records Detained for Detaining and Sexually Assaulting Girlfriend
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] A suspect who was issued an arrest warrant for detaining and sexually assaulting his girlfriend in a fit of rage after she broke up with him was arrested by the police three days after the report.
On the 8th, Jeju Dongbu Police Station announced that they had urgently arrested Kang (37) on charges of detention and sexual assault causing injury.
According to the police, Kang is accused of dragging his girlfriend A (29) to his home in Ora 2-dong, Jeju City, around 8 a.m. on the 3rd, detaining her for three days until the 5th, and sexually assaulting her.
Kang is charged with tying A’s hands and feet, sexually assaulting her, threatening her multiple times with a weapon, and assaulting her.
He is also accused of causing injuries by burning major parts of her body with a cigarette lighter.
Kang and A had been dating for five months, and Kang reportedly committed the crime in a rage after A informed him of the breakup.
Kang has a prior record of similar offenses and is confirmed to have more than 20 criminal convictions.
On the morning of the 5th at around 8:34 a.m., A escaped to a neighbor’s house and called 112 while Kang was briefly out. Upon realizing this, Kang fled in his car.
Currently, A is reported to have suffered serious injuries including fractured ribs and ruptured organs, underwent emergency surgery at a hospital, and was transferred to the intensive care unit.
The police reportedly deployed a large number of personnel to track Kang’s whereabouts, including 18 members from the Women and Youth Division of Dongbu Police Station, 35 detectives, three detective teams from Seobu Police Station, and personnel from the Violent Crimes Unit of Jeju Provincial Police Agency.
