Joo Ho-young: "Chu Mi-ae blatantly revealed intention to obstruct nuclear power plant search... must hold accountable"
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Lim Chun-han] Regarding the Board of Audit and Inspection's audit results on Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, Prosecutors conducted a search and seizure of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and Korea Gas Corporation. Floor Leader Joo Ho-young stated, "If the truth is revealed, this is an incident that demands tremendous accountability." He criticized Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, who condemned the search and seizure, saying she is "blatantly showing an intention to obstruct."
Floor Leader Joo attended the "Discussion on the Illegality of the Nuclear Phase-out Policy" held at the National Assembly on the 6th and said, "The investigation into this case has begun, and some search and seizure took place yesterday, but Minister Choo is already blatantly showing an intention to obstruct the investigation."
He said, "'Political investigation' is being claimed, but every case Minister Choo obstructs is one where, once the truth is revealed later, tremendous responsibility must be held," adding, "While pointing out the faults of the nuclear phase-out, those responsible must also be held accountable for the procedures themselves."
Floor Leader Joo said the nuclear phase-out was carried out according to the president's will, stating, "Just because you hold power does not mean you can unilaterally set national policy according to the president's wishes," and added, "Procedures must be followed, and legality must be ensured in the process, which is truly lamentable."
He criticized, "A country's energy policy is an extremely important policy connected not only to industrial policy but also to security policy, and energy transition is a crucial policy that takes decades. However, President Moon and his close aides seem to be obsessed with strange prejudices and convictions after watching the incorrect movie Pandora. Due to one word from the president, 100 billion won was lost when Gori Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 was shut down, and despite repeated warnings about the nuclear phase-out policy being wrong in relation to the early closure of Wolseong Unit 1, the procedures were also full of illegality."

Kim Young-sik, who hosted the discussion, also said, "The background of the nuclear phase-out was when President Moon visited Wolseong Unit 1 and asked, 'When will Unit 1 be shut down?' which became a hot topic, further intensified by the movie Pandora," adding, "The prosecutors conducted a search and seizure yesterday, and I hope the investigation proceeds well without political pressure. I hope the 'scapegoating' style investigations shown so far do not happen."
