Jangseong-gun Selected in Flower Seedling Field Contest... The Only One in Jeonnam
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Doo-seok) announced on the 5th that it was the only local government nationwide selected in the flower industry sector of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' '2021 Seed Industry Infrastructure Establishment Project.'
The county has established itself as a representative festival of Jeollanam-do with the 'Hwangryonggang Yellow Flower Festival,' where you can enjoy 1 billion autumn flowers, recording 1 million visitors for three consecutive years until last year.
Recently, the guerrilla gardens created by residents on every small piece of village land have also attracted attention by offering modest and unique sights.
Through this selection, the county secured a project budget of 1 billion won and plans to establish flower variety research facilities and specialized flower nurseries.
Once the facilities are in place, it will be possible to supply seeds and seedlings produced directly at reasonable prices.
Furthermore, by promoting domestic seed harvesting and seedling businesses, it is expected to reduce patent (royalty) costs incurred when purchasing foreign seeds.

Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “We plan to establish the foundation of the seed industry, called the ‘semiconductor’ of the agricultural sector, reduce production costs for flower farmers, and expand the supply of county seedlings nationwide to lead the domestic flower industry. We expect it to contribute to the localization of flower seedlings in the long term.”
