Chungnam Cheonan Call Center Multiple Confirmed Cases... Consecutive Cluster Infections in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] On the 5th, the number of newly confirmed domestic cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was 125, continuing the triple-digit count for the second consecutive day following yesterday's 118 cases.
Cluster infections continue to occur steadily in the metropolitan area, and small-scale infection cases are ongoing in other regions such as Busan, Chungnam, and Gyeongnam. A new cluster infection at a call center in Cheonan, Chungnam has resulted in 20 confirmed cases so far, and confirmed cases are occurring in various daily settings including medical institutions, nursing facilities, family and acquaintances' gatherings, workplaces, and saunas. The increase in confirmed cases may also have been influenced by the influx of young people to clubs and pubs on Halloween Day, October 31st.
According to the domestic status compiled by the Central Disease Control Headquarters as of 0:00 on the day, 108 cases are presumed to be domestic infections, and 17 cases are imported from overseas. By region, the metropolitan area accounts for 72 cases with Seoul at 46, Gyeonggi at 23, and Incheon at 3. Outside the metropolitan area, Chungnam has the highest number with 23 cases, followed by Gyeongnam with 5, Busan with 3, Daegu and Chungbuk with 2 each, and Gangwon with 1.
The number of locally transmitted confirmed cases increased by 10 from the previous day, rising back to triple digits after four days. This is the highest count in 13 days since recording 138 cases on the 23rd of last month.
The number of imported confirmed cases decreased by 3 from the previous day to 17. The presumed countries of origin for the imported cases are Uzbekistan (3), France (3), the United States (2), Russia (1), India (1), Myanmar (2), the United Arab Emirates (1), Jordan (1), Ireland (1), Ukraine (1), and Mexico (1).
Among the imported confirmed cases, 6 were identified during quarantine inspections at airports or ports, and the remaining 11 tested positive while in self-quarantine at their local residences or temporary living facilities.

The total number of confirmed domestic cases has increased to 27,050.
