LG Uplus Introduces 'Social VR' for 8K Live Broadcast of Professional Baseball Postseason
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heungsoon] LG Uplus announced on the 4th that it will launch the '8K Social VR Immersive Baseball Broadcast,' which allows viewers to watch the 2020 professional baseball postseason live broadcast in virtual reality (VR).
This service allows avatars representing each user to gather in a virtual reality space to watch the postseason games. It can be accessed through the U+VR application at the time each game is held. Users can create their own avatars and enter the cheering space, where they can have voice conversations with each other while watching the live broadcast in 8K resolution.
When starting the service, users first create a nickname and avatar in the locker room space. The avatar can be customized according to individual preferences with a total of 13 accessories, including head, top, bottom, and cheering tools. Once the avatar is created, users can enter the cheering space called the 'Social Room.'
In the Social Room, users can see avatars of other users, mascot characters, and the inning board. By touching the mascot character as a cheering tool, a function menu appears. Users can view the player lineup for the game, change cheering tools, switch camera angles, or exit the room. Touching the live broadcast screen also allows users to set off fireworks toward the sky.
Users can watch the game while having voice conversations. If they do not want sound, they can mute the voice or selectively mute specific avatars. Each user can also set their preferred camera angle individually.
