View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] It has been reported that Lee In-young, Minister of Unification, is considering a visit to the United States after the US presidential election.
On the 3rd, a Ministry of Unification official told reporters in response to questions about whether Minister Lee would visit the US after the presidential election, "A press briefing with the press corps is scheduled soon, and there will likely be an opportunity to answer related questions," neither denying nor confirming the plan to visit the US. The timing of the visit is expected to become clear within this week.
Minister Lee is scheduled to hold his first press briefing since taking office on the 9th, where he is likely to announce his first US visit schedule. The visit is expected to take place around the same time as Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, visit the US, which is interpreted as a proactive measure to manage the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
If Minister Lee visits the US, he is expected to meet with key executive branch officials as well as members of both the House and Senate. Earlier in August, US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun expressed his desire to meet through Harry Harris, the US Ambassador to Korea, so there is also a possibility of a meeting with Deputy Secretary Biegun.
