Jin Cheol-hoon, Chairman of Dongil Architecture from Seoul, Considered for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Nominee
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jin Cheol-hoon, chairman of Dongil Architecture, who passed the administrative technical civil service exam from Seoul City and held key positions such as Director of the Housing Bureau and Director of the Urban Planning Bureau, is gaining attention as a potential candidate for the next Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Chairman Jin is a skilled official with extensive experience in public service, having served as chairman of the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) and the Korea Facilities Safety Corporation, among other roles, after rising through the ranks in Seoul City as a technical civil service exam graduate.
Especially known as an honest senior official during Mayor Ko Gun’s administration in Seoul, Chairman Jin also demonstrated political capability by serving as president of the Korea ROTC Central Association, which has over 208,000 members, from 2017 to 2019.
Chairman Jin emerged as a candidate who could work in harmony with the Moon Jae-in administration, having run unsuccessfully as the Uri Party’s candidate for Jeju Governor in the 2004 by-election during the participatory government.
A source from Seoul City said, “Chairman Jin Cheol-hoon is a senior official with no shortcomings in all aspects, including ability and integrity,” adding, “We hope he will accomplish great work in solving the pressing real estate issues.”
Chairman Jin is also known for his strict self-management, having lived in an apartment in Yongsan, Seoul for 40 years, which has drawn attention.

Meanwhile, with current Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi expected to step down in a year-end reshuffle, candidates including Chairman Jin, former Vice Ministers Park Seon-ho and Kim Kyung-wook, and Assemblyman Jo Jeong-sik are being mentioned as potential successors.
